Powerwall is registered with Tesla at commissioning, so there is nothing to file later. Connectivity is the condition that matters: the 10 year term needs the unit to stay connected to the internet. If the connection drops and is not restored within 45 days of Tesla's written request, cover ends at 48 months.

What has to stay true
These are not deadlines. They are things that have to be true for the full term to hold, mostly with no clock attached, and nothing tells you when one stops being true.
Powerwall registered with Tesla at commissioning
Connected to the internet: the 10 year term needs ongoing connectivity, otherwise cover can drop to 4 years
Terms by product line
Parts and labour are separate covers and they are rarely the same length. The models column is what the nameplate will say.
| Product line | Parts | Labour | Models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Powerwall 3 | 10 years | None | PW3-AC-AU |
What it pays for labour
The part is covered. The truck roll usually is not, and that is the number that decides whether a claim is worth filing.
Powerwall 3 carries 10 years of parts cover and no labour cover.

Tesla warranty questions
Does a Powerwall warranty need registering?
Commissioning registers it. The job afterwards is verifying that it happened, not filing anything.
Does a Powerwall have to stay online for the warranty?
Yes. Connectivity is a live condition for the whole decade. If the connection drops and is not restored within 45 days of Tesla's written request, the warranty ends at 48 months rather than 10 years.
What should I tell the homeowner about their Powerwall warranty?
That their wifi matters. A router swap that takes the Powerwall offline and stays unnoticed is the single most likely way a 10 year term quietly becomes a four year one.

Warranty terms change and differ by country. This is a reading of the manufacturer's published document on the date shown, not legal advice, and not a substitute for the document that applies to the model you installed.
