Truck roll cost calculator

The part is covered. The visit usually is not. This works out what the visit costs you, against what the brand pays back.

A warranty claim has two numbers: what the manufacturer covers, and what it costs you to collect it. Enphase is the only brand in this catalogue that publishes a per visit rate, at $200 per truck roll plus $25 for each microinverter replaced. Every other brand publishes nothing, which means the visit is yours.

Every input starts on a placeholder, not a market rate. Claim Timer does not know what your business costs to run, and a calculator that pretended to would be worse than useless. Change all of them to your own numbers.

Why the admin time is in the calculation

The visit is the obvious cost. The part is the obvious cost. What gets left out of almost every estimate is the hour somebody in the office spends filing the claim, then the twenty minutes a fortnight chasing it until it is paid.

That time is charged here at the same hourly rate as field time, which is arguably generous to the claim. Whichever rate you use, leaving it at zero is how a claim that loses money looks like a claim that breaks even.

No published rate is not the same as zero

When you pick a brand other than Enphase, the panel says the brand does not publish a rate. It deliberately does not show a zero, because those are different facts. Several brands carry labour cover inside the warranty term without stating a per visit reimbursement, and what they actually pay is settled claim by claim.

The practical position is the same either way. Until a claim says otherwise, plan on absorbing the whole cost of the visit, and treat anything you recover as upside.

What to do with the number

One truck roll rarely changes a decision. Twenty of them across a year, sorted by brand, is a purchasing decision. If a manufacturer costs you four visits a year and pays nothing toward any of them, that cost belongs in the price you quote for installing it, or in the decision to stop.

The number also decides whether a paid labour extension is worth buying. Enphase sells one that stretches labour cover to five or ten years from activation. Whether it pays depends entirely on your real cost per visit against the reimbursement, which is the arithmetic this page exists to make easy.

Log what each claim actually cost you

Claim Timer tracks the value recovered on every claim against the brand it came from, so after a quarter you know which manufacturers are worth installing and which ones you are subsidising.
