SMA's US residential inverters carry a 10 year factory warranty. Registering in SMA's Online Service Center is how the warranty record attaches to the unit, and it is the door to paid extensions later, which can be bought any time during the factory term up to 20 years total. No dated deadline was found.
Register: step by step
Capture the nameplate before anyone leaves site
Photograph the nameplate and record the serial and model. SMA asks for serial number, model, installation date, customer name, installation address, and every one of those is easier on the roof than from the office.

Registration happens at https://my.sma-service.com/. You register this one.
Meet the conditions, then confirm them
SMA attaches a condition to the full term: Register the inverter in SMA's Online Service Center: it activates the factory warranty record and is the door to paid extensions later. Confirm each one rather than assuming it happened.
Record the confirmation
Save the confirmation number and the date against the job. There is no deadline to prove, but there is a start date to prove, and that is what a claim will ask for.
